My work is a departure from the complexities and turbulence of contemporary culture. Focused on rediscovering primal connections, my work consistently involves nature, the feminine, and mysticism. My projects range in medium, content, and purpose but there is always an underlying sense of mystery. Unconcerned with addressing issues of the profound, philosophical, or social, my works act as prompts for questions rather than answers to them. Focused on conveying moods, emotions, and aesthetics, my process unveils meaning intuitively and abstractly.
My current projects focus on the abstraction and obscuring of the feminine form as well as organicism and the implications between humanity and nature. Large scale, monochromatic blue and red paintings such as Midnight Abyss and Ultimo Choro weave feminine figures into abstracted landscapes. Because of their ambiguous nature, loose gestures, and vivid monotonality, the images evoke feelings of familiarity while also occupying a foreign space. Whether bottomless seascapes or blazing foliage, what's expressed in each work is enigmatic abundance. A recent installation, quid intus? presents old television monitors connected with blue and red cords to a sculpture resembling an organ, exploring connections between humanity and technology. Staged in a dark room with a spotlight on the organ and faceless female figures on the screens, this work depicts an eerie hybrid of the biological, mechanical and obscure.
My photographic and video works such as Dream Portrait, Ophelia, and Inside engage with the subconscious and obscurity often depicting faceless figures. Varying in complexity and composition, these works explore what can be discovered in darkness as well as the implications of what remains. Whether through the motion of bodily shadows or the removal of information through editing, the polarities of light and dark are at play, encouraging exploration into the infinite possibilities of the seen and unseen. The viewer is invited to fill in the blanks and contemplate what has been left out.
While there is a divine feminine power enforced through these works, there is also an implication of violence. Through visual constraints and bodily composition of feminine figures, pieces such as The Basement, Symbiosis, and Oculta maintain violence as a subtle but constant presence. They also depict profound connections between nature and the feminine. There is a sense of power and mysticism in the postures of the figures, the colors of their surroundings, whether it be flourishing grass or cold concrete, and the symmetry and balance of the compositions; combining the enchanting quality of femininity with an eternal and intense presence.
